April Kilbourne
Equine & Barn Director
April started her journey with horses at the age of seven, competing with American Saddlebred and Morgan horses and maintaining a rigorous training schedule that led her to many championships and regional titles on the Pacific coast. April received her B.S. in Biology with an emphasis in Zoology from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. While still a student there, she was hired by the head trainer of the world-renowned WK Kellogg Arabian Horse Center on-campus to be an assistant trainer after he noticed her skills in working with a particularly difficult horse. While working at The Kellogg Center, April started 15 young horses under saddle and took the lead in maintaining a herd of over 60 show, lesson, and breeding horses. April also ran the student program, acting as advisor to the horsemanship club and IHSA show team, assisting in creating and implementing programs for student veterans and the women’s resource center, and heading up the famous Sunday Shows. April entered the nonprofit world last year in her position at Taking the Reins, where she has maintained the health and training of their herd and given lessons in riding and horsemanship to girls from historically underserved communities in the Los Angeles area. In addition to her work with horses, April is an artist and musician, and has sung, performed, and taught professionally in the Los Angeles area for the past 13 years. She is very excited to bring her passion for horses and teaching to BINA Farm Center.
